Graphics should always be inserted as a link, rather than embedded. This helps ensure that the main document is kept slim, all the graphics are always up-to-date and, in the case of data corruption or loss of the main document, the graphics are stored separately and remain safe.

  1. From the Insert menu, select Picture > From File.

  2. Browse to find the picture you want to insert.

  3. Check the Link box and click Open to insert the picture.

Preferably, you should store graphics in a separate folder from your main document. If you want to reorganize your graphics on your hard drive, such as move them into a different folder, you can easily update the links.

  1. From the Edit menu, select Links.

  2. Select all links you need to update by holding down the Ctrl key and selecting the links.

  3. Click Modify.

  4. Browse and select the new directory.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Close.
